Press Release. BROWARD COUNTY COMMISSION APPROVES
NEW LOCATION FOR STONEWALL LIBRARY & ARCHIVES - Library is half
way to $1 Million Capital Campaign Goal
At its June 12 meeting, the Broward County Commission approved allocation
of 4350 square feet in the ArtServe/County Library building located
at 1300 East Sunrise Boulevard, as the new home of Stonewall Library
& Archives. The designated portion of the building, currently part
of the branch library, will be renovated at Stonewall’s expense and
will provide the organization with a space more than twice its current
size.
Stonewall also announced today that its Capital Campaign Committee, under the auspices of the Stonewall Library & Archives Foundation, has already successfully raised over half of its one million dollar two-year campaign goal in pledges and donations. Campaign Chair Keith Clark spelled out the fundraising goals for the committee. “The one million dollars we hope to raise over the next two years will be divided equally with the first portion to be used for design, space modifications, and furnishing of Stonewall’s new location and the second portion will be used to create an operations and programs endowment.”
Stonewall launched its capital campaign earlier this spring earlier with the receipt of a challenge grant from the Community Foundation of Broward/John C. Graves Charitable Fund. Through this generous grant, funds raised by Stonewall will be matched by the Graves Fund up to $200,000, with a $100,000, incentive bonus when the $200,000 has been raised.
Dr. Nathan Klarfeld, Stonewall’s President commented, “We are excited and energized about Stonewall’s future. The partnerships we are creating with the Community Foundation/Graves Trust, ArtServe, the County Library and throughout the community have created a strong base from which can move into this exciting new chapter in Stonewall’s long and distinguished history.”
